Irwin T. and Shirley Holtzman Israeli Literature Collection

Bookplate honoring: Irwin T. and Shirley Holtzman Israeli Literature Collection

The Irwin T. and Shirley Holtzman Israeli Literature Collection was donated in 2011. The collection covers Israeli literature from the earliest days of statehood in 1948 up to the present. Many of the volumes of fiction, poetry, and drama are inscribed by the author. Literary journals, literary criticism, original artwork, and manuscript materials, including extensive correspondence between Holtzman and many literary authors, are in the collection as well. The Holtzman Israeli Literature Collection represents many years of passionate collecting by Irwin T. "Toby" Holtzman, a Detroit area builder. Holtzman was a dedicated supporter of Israeli authors, providing financial assistance for translations and literary efforts. His death in 2010 was mourned by writers and collectors alike around the world.
