Main Library Tabling and Donation Bin Policies and Guidelines

2022

The Library welcomes campus units and registered student organizations (RSOs) to table in the Main Library in designated areas. Tabling at the Main Library is free. All tabling requests are subject to approval by Library administration.

Locations:

There are three approved locations for tabling on the first floor of the Main Library:

  • The StateWalk table (north lobby, across from the Special Collections gallery) before 8:00 pm
  • Inside the library cafe seating area
  • Inside the north breezeway, next to the lockers (note: this location is not heated)

Policies:

The purpose should be informational only and to raise the awareness of free services and resources available to students. Preference is given to tabling efforts that align with the Libraries’ strategic plan. Tabling must adhere to the library’s code of conduct.

No selling, fundraising, or soliciting, such as using questionnaires, surveys, or petitions, is permitted inside the library.

Requests may be denied for a number of reasons such as scope of event, security concerns, and facilities limitations.

Requests will not be considered for days that the Main Library is closed, on home football game Saturdays, the last week of classes, or during finals week.

The library will provide one 6 foot table and two chairs. All other tabling equipment must be brought by the event host and removed at the end of the tabling time. Temporary signage describing the activity must be posted on the table and removed at the end of the reservation.

Tabling and display materials may not block any entrance, walkway or fire exit or otherwise restrict the free flow of pedestrian traffic.

No display materials may be attached to any wall. Signage may be placed on or next to the table, but not in any other location in the library.

At least one table host must be present throughout the entire time the table is in place. No more than four people should staff a table at any given time due to space limitations.

No access to electricity is available at any of the three Main Library locations.

No amplified sound is allowed as part of tabling. Tabling groups should not be disruptive to people who are studying in the library.

Groups must clean their table and area after they finish tabling.

All organizations wishing to use space in the Main Library must contact the Outreach Librarian or her designee at least 7 days in advance to reserve space.

All organizations wishing to use library space will be allowed a limit of 4 consecutive hours on the day of tabling. Consecutive days will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Individually prepackaged, commercially purchased food (such as candy) may be distributed.  Beverage distribution is prohibited.

Requests must include setup and cleanup time. Cleanup must be completed no later than one hour prior to the library's closing.

Donation Bins:

The Main Library has a space for donation bins sponsored by campus units and RSOs on the tall half-moon table next to the Circulation Desk.

  • Groups must supply a bin that is at least 2 feet tall and does not look like a garbage can.
  • Groups must empty the bin at least once a week.
  • Donation drive cannot last for more than 1 month.
  • Bins should be clearly labeled with:
    • Name of the responsible club/department
    • List of items to be collected
    • Contact information
    • Dates of donation drive
