Clason's Green Guides

Green guide

The Green Guides were published by the Clason Map Company between 1906-1931. These unique pocket-size guides were made for many states and several cities and consisted of a booklet and one or more large maps pasted within the covers. Clason typically did not place dates or even date codes on their products, which makes the collector’s task of dating a piece difficult. This article sets down guidelines for dating Green Guides by providing a systematic study of several design elements including cover design, naming conventions, and context clues elsewhere within the publications.
