Due to major system maintenance, you will not be able to request items through MeLCat beginning on November 18, 2015. Renewals for MeLCat items will still be possible until December 2, 2015. The system should be available for requesting again in early December. If you are MSU faculty, student or staff, please try Uborrow. Our community borrowers will not have access to interlibrary loan through MSU during that time. For more information, please read this MeLCat Server Migration FAQ. We apologize for the inconvenience.
By remembering the MSU Libraries with an estate gift, you can support our mission beyond your years. Many people find they can make a more generous gift through a bequest in their will than they are able to comfortably manage during their lifetime. In addition, your bequest will qualify you for an estate tax charitable deduction.
Before you make a bequest in your will, we strongly advise you to contact your attorney or advisors for advice. Please also contact the MSU Libraries' Development Office at (517) 884-6446.
Here is an example of standard language for a will bequest to the MSU Libraries:
I (we) give to Michigan State, East Lansing, Michigan, the sum of $_________ (or percent of the residue or my (our) estate or other personal property appropriately described) to be used for Michigan State University Libraries.
MSU's federal tax identification number is 38-6005984.
If you have already included the MSU Libraries in a will bequest, please contact the Development Office at (517) 884-6446, to ensure that your gift has been documented properly -- and so that we can thank you, and share the wonderful news!
Don Koch and Barbara Sawyer-Koch have remembered the MSU Libraries in their will, and have also donated two museum-quality exhibit cases which allow us to display materials from Special Collections in the Main Library lobby.
