Books that are determined to need deacidification are processed by Binding Prep. to be shipped off for treatment. On the day a group of books is readied for shipment each piece is checked out on the system using special patron numbers. Each patron number is coded by Circulation for one day circulation. It will then appear on the next days "Overdue Items" list which is automatically created by the system each day.
Once the current Overdue items list is available, an item list is run off the file to pull out those items checked out to the patron numbers used for the previous days processing.
It is DataCat's job to put a note in the item record for each piece that has been sent for deacidification. We can use the Rapid Update feature to add this note to the PRSERVTION field (code "p") which contains the following information:
Deacidified|c2000/3|kBookkeeper
The "2000/3" indicates the year/month the piece was deacidified and the "Bookkeeper" is the vendor who does the deacidification.
