Due to major system maintenance, you will not be able to request items through MeLCat beginning on November 18, 2015. Renewals for MeLCat items will still be possible until December 2, 2015. The system should be available for requesting again in early December. If you are MSU faculty, student or staff, please try Uborrow. Our community borrowers will not have access to interlibrary loan through MSU during that time. For more information, please read this MeLCat Server Migration FAQ. We apologize for the inconvenience.
National Cataloging Documentation
Resource Description and Access (RDA)
RDA Toolkit (MSU access only)
Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC)
- The PCC website, together with the PCC listserv, is the most up-to-date resource for national level cataloging policies and best practices. Supervisors will disseminate key policies and documentation from the PCC. Original catalogers are responsible for staying current with and applying PCC policy as appropriate, per goals and objectives and/or job duties documentation.
- Authority work done under NACO and bibliographic work done under BIBCO and CONSER must conform to PCC policy. All other cataloging at MSU takes PCC policy as a guide, but is primarily subject to local policy.
Selected PCC Guidelines:
Hybrid Bibliographic Record Guidelines
BIBCO Participants Manual (2013 draft, currently under revision by BIBCO)
CONSER Cataloging Manual (modules revised for RDA)
- Revised and unrevised modules are both available in Cataloger's Desktop.
NACO Participants' Manual (2005, currently under revision by NACO)
- Both resources also available and updated on Cataloger's Desktop
Best Practices for Cataloging Streaming Media (2009, currently under revision by OLAC)
