The daily remote storage truck will be delivered from Circulation staff around 2-3 p.m. The truck should be processed as follows:

  1. Pull any books that have the orange "Remote Storage Problem" streamer and deliver to the person requesting it.
  2. Process remaining books as follows: look in the book to see if it has a barcode.
  3. If the book has a barcode:
    1. Type/scan in the number to see if it is in Magic.
    2. If the number is in Magic, verify all information and make sure that the location says "rs". It may be rsa, rsb, etc.
    3. If the location does not say "rs", put "rs" in the location and do a remote storage request to find out exactly what is in Remote. (Further investigation will be completed when remote holdings are known.)
    4. If the barcode is not in Magic, search for the record using call number, title, etc. Verify all information, then use the barcode that is in the book to create an item for the book.
  4. If the book does not have a barcode, search for record and verify information. Create an item record and place a barcode on the back of the book.
  5. Verify all books have barcode on back cover, if not, make duplicate barcode and place on book.
  6. All books have a printout in them which will indicate where the books are to go.
    1. Books with printouts that have "ILL" or "Interlibrary Loan" at the top should be delivered to the ILS dept.
    2. Books with printouts that just have "MSU Libraries" at the top should be delivered to Circulation.
