Procedures - Cataloging: Downloading PromptCat Records from OCLC Product Services Web into OCLC Connexion

1.  Open Internet Explorer (not Mozilla Firefox) to get to OCLC’s Product Services web page.  Either type in the URL or select from your “favorites” bookmark.  The URL is http://psw.oclc.org/psw/psw.pway

 

2.  This is the screen you’ll see. Choose download records and reports.

3.  This screen will display. Choose OCLC PromptCat labels, records and reports.

4..  The log on screen will display. You must key in the authorization number and password. If you do not know the authorization number and password see your Team Manager.

5. The Records and reports screen will appear.  The files containing your bibliographic records will show in the Records section.

6.  Scroll down in the Records section to get to the Blackwell files (files that begin BWX).

7.  When you’ve located the file you need, use the left mouse button and click once.  A menu box will appear. Choose Save Target As.

8.  A File Download box will appear.

9. Wait until the download finishes, and then a Save As box will appear. Save the file to your desktop.  Be sure Desktop appears in the Save in box and the filename appears in the File name box.  Right-click on Save.

10.  The download is complete.  Right-click on Close.

11.  An icon representing this file now appears on your Desktop.

12. Now you need to import the file into Connexion Client. Choose File, then Import Records.

13. The Import Records box will appear. Be sure the Import to Local Save File button is checked, then click Browse.

14.  Desktop should appear in the Look in box.  If it doesn’t appear, open the drop down menu and choose it. Now locate the file of records you're going to import, and click once to highlight it. The filename will now appear in the File name box. Click Open.

15.  The Import Records box will appear again.  Your filename should show in the File to Import box.  Click OK.

16.  The records will now appear in your default bib file in Connexion Client.
