Printed Supplement

Printed supplementary material may accompany either print or non-print primary material and will always be kept with the main piece.

  1. Location: Use only one location code, for the main piece. Do not use 866/867 fields.
  2. Supplementary material flag is used. As of 6/30/05, the only supplementary material flag to be used is the narrow one.
  3. 300 field |e subfield
    Ex: 75 p. ; |c 28 cm. + |e 1 chart and 1 instruction sheet.
          244 p. : |b ill. ; |c 26 cm. + |e 1 map (48 x 54 cm. folded to 18 x 25 cm.)
          1 CD-ROM : |b col. ; |c 4 3/4 in. + |e 1 manual (122 p. ; 28 cm.)
  4.  500 field
    Ex: Accompanied by 1 chart and 1 instruction sheet.
          Accompanied by 1 folded col. zoning map in pocket.
          Accompanied by instruction manual titled: How to use your new CD-ROM.
  5. 7xx field: Use at cataloger's discretion if the supplementary material has a distinctive title.
    Ex: 740 02 How to use your new CD-ROM.
  6. Item records will be created for:
    • The main piece
    • A substantial print supplement, such as an instruction manual in book format.
      Normally no item record will be created for a print supplement.
  7. Call number: Write as usual in the main piece. Do not write the call number on a print supplement unless it is substantial, such as an instruction manual.
  8. Labeling: Send main piece and supplement to Labeling together, using a pink tie if necessary. If the main piece is print, they go on the regular labeling truck. If the main piece is non-print, they go on the non-print media labeling shelf in Catalog Maintenance
