Cataloging - Format-Specific Cataloging : Barcoding Traveling Serials

DataCat and other folks in Tech Services who work with serial titles where the volumes move between branch libraries and Main have used various policies about what color bar code to place on these volumes. It has been difficult for everyone in TS to remember the details of which color bar code to use for which policy. I have learned that our confusion is duplicated in the Mailroom, in Circulation, and probably in the branches.

From now on, material for the external branches will ALWAYS get a yellow bar code. This will be a change for a few branches who receive serial volumes that are shelved in Main after a period of time in their branch. Those volumes have been given white bar codes. We will now start placing yellow bar codes on these volumes.

DataCat handles the material that moves around between Main and the branches. We will be able to change the bar codes to the appropriate color as we do the processing to update Magic to reflect the correct location of the volumes.
