The following policy will be followed when creating/transcribing bibliographic records that will be included in the SkyRiver database. This policy applies to both monograph and serial cataloging.
Original records and records created using "derive" or "new" commands should have an 040 field with the symbol MiEM in both subfields "a" and "c". SkyRiver will automatically insert this field when creating or deriving a new record. If a new record is derived in Millennium or via remote, the cataloger must add the 040 field.
EXAMPLE: 040 MiEM |c MiEM
1) If there is no 040 field in the record you've located and you are not making any changes in the record, add the field but include the MiEM symbol in subfield "c" only
EXAMPLE: 040 |c MiEM
2) If there is no 040 field in the record you've located, and you are making changes in that record, add the field but include the MiEM symbol in both subfield "c" and "d"
EXAMPLE: 040 |c MiEM |d MiEM
3) Retain the 040 field if the record you've located includes an 040 field. OPTIONAL: if you change or add data to the record add the MiEM symbol in subfield "d"
EXAMPLE: 040 XXX |c XXX |d MiEM
Do not edit, change, or add the 040 field to records exported for ordering purposes.
