Ordering: Addcat? Note

Since we share our catalog with other library entities (MSU Law Library and Lib. of Mich.) we need to be careful when cataloging new items (to the MSU Libraries) that have an existing record in our catalog. Even though an item may be new to our (MSU Libraries) collection, there may be an existing bib record in the catalog because another library may already own it. This requires a special procedure/workflow in the cataloging process. In order to help identify items that need to be in this workflow, Monograph Acquisitions will put an external note in the order record. This note will be: "addcat?" When the receiving person sees this note, it will be a cue that the item needs to go into a different workflow.

Please remember that this external note will only be used when, at the order point, there isn't an existing MSU Libraries' record attached to the bib record. In the instance when there is an existing MSU Libraries' record, the usual "add" notes will be used.
