America Votes, published every two years, provides U.S.
federal election figures since 1952. Shelved in SSHR (call number JK1967.A8).

Congressional Quarterly Weekly Report, published in paper
each week (as you might guess), is a good source for current federal election
news. Current issues shelved in PRR, backfiles in the Stacks (call number
JK1.C15).

Project Vote Smart offers Web-accessible
information about current and recent U.S. elections. It is produced by the
non-partisan Center for National Independence in Politics.

The Gallup organization provides
access to some polling data through its WWW site.

Gallup Poll Monthly prints recent polling results: shelved

Political speeches

Historic documents
of the United States of North America, a Web site at the University of
Kansas, includes all the Presidential inaugural speeches.

The White
House Virtual Library is an interactive Web site offering virtually all
White House and presidential remarks under the Clinton administration.

White House
publications through the University of North Carolina has a search engine
to cover the contents of recent presidential materials, but also is set up
for browsing.

Public papers of the Presidents, shelved in Government Documents
at SuDocs call number AE2.114, has recorded large numbers of presidential
documents since 1929. Note that the Roosevelt papers were privately published:

Congressional Quarterly Almanac, shelved as Government Documents
Congressional Reference call number JK1.C663, has printed the text of major
speeches, transcripts of presidential election debates, and similar materials
since 1967: check the Appendices.

(call number E839.5 .H57), has reprinted important American and foreign speeches
(and other documents) since 1972.

The eXcite search engine has a link to dozens of
American
daily newspaper home pages on the Web. The content varies from brief
summaries to lengthy articles; some sites are come-ons for commercial services.

A smaller number of
international
newspapers are available: this list is mostly from English-speaking
countries.

Newspaper Abstracts can be searched
on-line by campus users through MSU's Electronic Reference Library service.
It provides indexing to recent years of the The New York
Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Christian
Science Monitor, The Wall Street Journal, and
The Washington Post among others. Backfiles of these newspapers
(and others) is available in microfilm at PRR.
