Twenty-Five
Lectures on Modern Balkan History
Sources
about the Kosovo crisis
Many readers who visited
this Web site also were looking for sources that would shed light on the Kosovo
crisis. This note was originally added to the Table of Contents on April
2, 1999. The separate page for current
Balkan news is more frequently updated than this one.
Since NATO's intervention
in the Kosovo crisis, I have received email requests for more current information,
on events since 1995 or with greater emphasis on Albania. Rather than try to
update or enlarge these lectures, let me point to some other Web sites that
I think are reliable. Here you may find more background information, current
news, and organized lists of links to a wide range of Web sources:
- Radio Free Europe/Radio
Liberty:
For current news reports at http://www.rferl.org/
- Albania: A Country
Study (prepared 1992):
The U.S. Department of Defense commissions book-length background studies
on foreign regions of interest; the Library of Congress is posting these texts
on the Web. These provide good background summaries, but necessarily lack
current event coverage. You can read the Albanian study at http://lcweb2.loc.gov/frd/cs/altoc.html
- Yugoslavia: A
Country Study (prepared 1990):
Another in the series; this volume on the former Yugoslavia and its successor
states is on the Web at http://lcweb2.loc.gov/frd/cs/yutoc.html
- U. of Texas Russian
and East European Network Information Center:
This site offers links to many other Web sites through pages at http://reenic.utexas.edu/
- INCORE guide to Internet
sources on conflict and ethnicity in Kosovo:
Another site with many links, from a British policy group; this portion of
the larger site deals with Kosovo, online at http://www.incore.ulst.ac.uk/services/cds/countries/Kosovo.html
- Crucible of War:
This site, developed by a multi-national team, is an effort to personalize
events in the Balkan conflict. The Web site, at http://www.crucibleofwar.com/,
is a companion to a planned documentary.
This page is a portion
of a larger Web site, Twenty-Five Lectures on Modern Balkan History (The
Balkans in the Age of Nationalism); click here to return to the Table
of Contents page.
