Information Resources in the Future:
Challenges of the Digital Era

What are the challenges that libraries face as the transition from print-on-paper to digital environments unfolds? Hawkins explores the unsustainability of the current library model, and shortfalls of the electronic environment as it currently stands. He will identify a vision for which we might go about operationalizing a portion of this, envisioning a portal that would serve the academic environment. Finally, Hawkins will explore the challenge of collaboration as a major obstacle in accomplishing the goals identified.

Transforming the Learning Environment
What are the trends in higher education that are changing teaching and learning as a function of information technology? Hawkins will explore a number of barriers to the transformation of the learning environment as they affect the roles of faculty and information service providers within higher education. He will examine IT trends, as well as their impact on organizational structures on campus, the marketplace for higher education, the culture of our institutions and the business practices that we employ, which all lead to both a turbulent and transformed enterprise.

To make arrangements for disabled persons please contact Mary Patterson at 517/353-0722 by Thursday, March 18. Requests received after this date will be met as possible. The Kellogg Center is located on Harrison Road in East Lansing. Map
