This year, Earth Science Week, sponsored by the American Geological Institute, will focus on natural hazards and the ways that Earth scientists study hazards in order to understand their causes and minimize their impact on society. Given the impact of recent storm activity in the Atlantic and Caribbean regions as well as the continuing volcanic activity in the Pacific Rim’s “Ring of Fire”, the focus on natural hazards and disasters for Earth Science Week is a timely one.
The Michigan State University Libraries collect materials on many issues related to global weather patterns, natural disasters, and the social and environmental impacts. This month’s display will feature some of those materials and highlight local and regional materials as well.
