Microforms Library Information

 

The Microforms Library houses approximately 119,000 reels of microfilm, 1.1 million microfiche and microcards, as well as, indexes and printed information for use with these materials. The Microforms Library is located on 2nd Floor West, in the Main Library.

Digital microreaders are available in the Copy Center on 2West in the Main Library. These reader/scanners allow users to save scanned images to a CD or removable drive at no charge. Printing is also available for 15 cents per page .

 
 
Major Collections on Microfiche
 
ERIC Documents (Educational Resources Information Center)
Many ERIC items from 1966-2003 are available on microfiche. Microfiche items will be preceded by "ED" in the ERIC citation. These microfiche are shelved in numeric order by the 6 digit number which follows the "ED" in the citation. ERIC articles which are not preceded by an "ED" will not be on microfiche and must be searched by the source, usually a journal title. Many ERIC documents from 1993 forward are also available online. The ERIC database listing provides a link to the full text.
 
MSU Theses
In additon to the paper copies on Ground West, MSU theses are also available on microfilm or microfiche. Check library online catalog for access information
 
NCJRS (National Criminal Justice Reference Service)
These microfiche are shelved in numeric order according to the number that follows the "NCJ" in the citation. Not every NCJ citation is on microfiche. In the case where no microfiche exists, the article must be searched by the source.
 
SABIN
These microfiche are generally shelved by the SABIN number listed on the fiche and in the MAGIC record. In some cases particular SABIN titles have been catalogued and given their own call number. In these cases the microfiche will be shelved in the general microfiche collection by call number.

Major Collections on Microfilm
 
Current Newspapers on Microfilm
These include back issues of newspapers to which the library currently subscribes. They are arranged alphabetically according to the title of the newspaper.
 
MSU Theses
Prior to a change in library policy, MSU theses were received on microfilm. This film is shelved separately by film number and has an orange dot sticker on the film boxes. Please note: If you are looking for a recently published MSU thesis it will most likely be found on microfiche, not microfilm. Check MAGIC for location.
 
Short Title Catalog
These film are a collection of early English books. The collection is divided into two parts: STCI and STCII. The film is shelved numerically according to reel number within each collection.

Microcopy Shelves
 
The microcopy shelves are located in the PRR/Microforms Service Desk area, and contain indexes, guides and other material for use with items in the Microforms Library. A pink cross reference card is found with the microforms if corresponding microcopy material exists. The pink card gives the call number of the microcopy material. This allows it to be located on the microcopy shelves.
