Description
The Institute for Cyber-Enabled Research was established to coordinate and support multidisciplinary resources for computation and computational sciences. The Center's goal is to enhance MSU's national and international presence and competitive edge in disciplines and research thrusts that rely on advanced computing.

Research Data Planning & Design

Grant Writing
- Provide support for grant writers who need to include the use of computing and storage resources in their proposals

Research Design
- Provides some consulting with users

Data Management
- Provide high-speed temporary and short-term storage, with an option to purchase additional storage space

Cost Sharing
- Provide cost sharing for mission-related post-doctoral students and equipment with approval from the center’s director

Other Services
- Provides thousands of processor cores with specialized software and hardware to support cyber-enabled research
Short Term Data Storage

Backup Policy
- Has hourly on-site snapshots and nightly off-site backups

Storage Quota
- 50 GB default and up to 1 TB provided for free
- If more than 1 TB is needed, it can be purchased for a fee

Cost of Storage
- No charge for less than 1 TB
- $250 per TB per year for each TB over 1 TB

Maximum Retention Period
- Lifetime of iCER account + 6 months

Security & Access Policies
- NetID and public-key authentication for system access

Secured using standard POSIX permissions
- By default, access is limited to a single user; multi-user sharing managed by Unix group accounts
- NFS access to internal systems only

CIFS access on-campus
- Access is available externally via VPN or SSH

Backups are encrypted over-the-wire, but not at rest
- Can provide method for user-applied encryption if requested

- Provides computational science consulting and programming advice

- Hosts virtualized web interfaces (primarily bioinformatics) and simple web-based data sharing for HPC users

- Provides database hosting on internal networks and web-facing applications
