The following is a brief guide to the some of the more useful research tools related to the international governmental organization (IGO) materials collected at MSU. It is not an exhaustive list of IGO's collected at MSU, nor is it a complete list of their documents and publications. Although most of the materials listed below are located in the Government Documents Library (Main Library, 3rd Floor West), some materials are located in other Library locations. A list of these locations is available. Please note that some of these materials are not cataloged on MAGIC, particularly the items on microfiche. This index to the UN microfiche/microprint collection includes many of the documents, Official Records, periodicals, periodical articles, and sales publications of the General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council, Trusteeship Council, International Court of Justice, and the Secretariat. It includes a very limited number of materials issued by the UN specialized agencies (i.e., UNESCO, FAO, ILO, etc.). Full text documents include resolutions from the General Assembly (1981-onward), the Security Council (1974-onward), and the Economic and Social Council (1982-onward). Also, selected Provisional Verbatim documents, which contain voting records of General Assembly and Security Council resolutions, are added to the database in reverse chronological order (1990-onward); some full text documents dealing with important topical issues are also included.

United Nations Documents Index. (Gov. Docs. Ref., Reference 1st floor East, JX1977 .A1 U558; included in the UNBISnet database)
The main print index to the documents and publications of the UN and its subsidiary bodies. Indexing to UN materials has undergone numerous changes over the years:

From 1979-1996, the main index to UN materials was UNDOC: Current Index. For the period 1974 - 1978, the analogous index was UNDEX: United Nations Documents Index. From 1950 - 1973, indexing was provided by the United Nations Documents Index (UNDI). A cumulated index for 1950-1962 is shelved following UNDI. The specialized agencies are indexed in this series only until 1962. There are substantial differences in the coverage of these indexes; be sure to read the explanatory material provided in the volumes.

Index to Proceedings of the Security Council
JX1977.A5

UN-I-QUE (UN Info Quest) is database created by the United Nations/Specialized Agencies Reference Desk of the Dag Hammarskjöld Library to respond to frequently asked questions. Designed to provide quick access to document symbols/sales numbers for UN materials (1946 onwards), the database does not give full bibliographic details. UN-I-QUE focuses upon documents and publications of a recurrent nature: annual/sessional reports of committees/commissions; monographic series; journals; annual publications; reports periodically/irregularly issued; reports of major conferences; statements in the General Debate; etc. Information within each record is presented in reverse chronological order to facilitate identification of the most recent data.
