Freedom of Information Day is celebrated yearly on March 16. James Madison, our 4th president, the "Father of the Constitution", and chief author of the Bill of Rights, was born on March 16. While James Madison, who lived between 1751-1836, supported an open government, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) was not enacted until 1966. The FOIA moved the access of information from a need to know basis to a right to know basis. This display will give you more information about the FOIA, James Madison, and government information around the world. |
