The Administration on Aging (AoA) web site provides an overview of a wide variety of topics, programs and services related to aging. It provides national and state information. In particular of interest are the AoA Data Resources including the Data Tables from the State Program Reports.
Age Data
Provided by the US Census Bureau, this web site gives links to aging data for national, state, and county level information.
AgingStats.gov
This is a federal interagency forum on aging-related statistics. It provides links to other resources including agencies involved with aging information. Two resources are the Older Americans Update: Key Indicators of Well-Being and Data Sources on Older Americans.
Health and Retirement Study (HRS)
The University of Michigan Health and Retirement Study (HRS) surveys more than 22,000 Americans over the age of 50 every two years. Supported by the National Institute on Aging (NIA U01AG009740), the study paints an emerging portrait of an aging America's physical and mental health, insurance coverage, financial status, family support systems, labor market status, and retirement planning. Registration is required to see the publicly available data.
Michigan Center on the Demography of Aging
MiCDA, a joint program of the University of Michigan's Population Studies Center and the Survey Research Center, helps spur new research on the economics and demography of aging and encourages the use of major datasets in the field. The Data page contains links to studies and other information on aging.
National Archive of Computerized Data on Aging (NACDA)
The National Archive of Computerized Data on Aging (NACDA), located within ICPSR, acquires and preserves data relevant to gerontological research, processing as needed to promote effective research use, disseminates them to researchers, and facilitates their use. Topics include demographic characteristics, social characteristics, economic characteristics, physical health, health care needs, psychological characteristics, mental health and well-being for older adults.
National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS)
A division of the CDC,
the NCHS is the Nation's principal health statistics agency, and it compiles statistical information to guide actions and policies to improve health. It collects data from birth and death records, medical records, interview surveys, and through direct physical exams and laboratory testing. It includes data on: Older Persons' Health Data, Access to Health Care: Older Adults, and many on diseases, and home and hospice care.
Trends in Health and Aging
Available through the National Center for Health Statistics, this site provides you with tables on trends in the health of older Americans showing data by age, sex, race and Hispanic origin. The tables are customizable. National and state data is available. To find state data do a state name search within the data tables. Some data topics are chronic conditions, health care, incontinence, injury, life expectancy, living arrangements, mental health, and many other topics.
