Configuring SAFARI on MAC OS X - PANTHER/JAGUAR

1. Open the Safari web browser. Then select preferences from the drop down menu.
You can also quickly open the Preferences dialog window by using the keystroke combination of the " Apple Key + ;"


2. By default, the Advanced preferences will be selected in the configuration window. Now find the button for Proxies at the bottom of the boxt and click on Change Settings. Please remember that the changes you make here will affect the network settings for all of your web browsers.
 

3. When the Network window opens, you will have several proxy server settings to select. Click on the Web Proxy (http) option to select it and then click inside the checkbox to make it active.

4. Now that you have selected the Web Proxy to configure, you will need to enter the Internet address for the proxy server. In the Web Proxy Server field, enter: proxy.msu.edu and in the other (port) box, enter 8080.

 

5. Next click the checkbox Proxy server requires password , this will automatically drop down the fields for your MSU NetID account.
 

6. Enter your network account infomation and then click the OK button.

7. The account information window will close, and you can start up your proxy settings by clicking on Apply Now.

 

8. Once you have clicked the Apply Now button, the configuration window will close. You can now close the Safari preferences window by clicking on the close window button at the top of this dialog box.
 

9. Once you have closed that dialog box, reload your browser window to start your proxy settings. You do not need to add "@msu.edu" after your username.
