Configuring Mozilla 1.7.x on Windows

Mozilla 1.7-x.x - cable modem/dsl configuration

1. Open the Mozilla web browser and select Edit from the menu bar, then choose Preferences .

2. When the preferences dialog box is open, you will select and click on the
Advanced category at the bottom of the list to expand it . You may currently disregard any content that may currently appear in the display window for now.

3. With the Advanced category expanded, you will now select Proxies from the menu. In the display window, the content will change to reflect the Proxies configuration setup. At this time you may be able to expedite the configuration setup by simply entering the javascript available from ACNS to automatically detect the proxy for you. Just copy this URL and paste it into the field for Automatic proxy configuration:

http://www.msu.edu/service/web/proxy/msu.js

Click the Reload button after entering the information into the field, then click the OK button to continue.

4. In your browser window, click the
Reload button to refresh your web session. This will in most instances generate the prompt for the Proxy server to ask you for your MSUNet user name and password. Enter this information, then click OK to continue with your session.

If the automatic configuration does
not work on your system, either due to Anti-virus applications, or firewall settings on your system, please continue to the next step to manually configure your system.

5. Once again, open the Preferences dialog window by going to Edit --> Preferences from the menu bar.
Select Advanced -->Proxies, then click on the button for Manual proxy configuration. If you still have the script information in the Automatic proxy configuration field, you may delete that URL at this time if you wish.

6. In the HTTP proxy field, you will enter the following information:
proxy.msu.edu and for the port you will enter: 8080. Do not change any other information in the Proxies information window. Once you are done, click the OK button to return to your web browser window.

7. In your browser window, click the Reload button to refresh your web session. This will in most instances generate the prompt for the Proxy server to ask you for your MSUNet user name and password. Enter this information, then click OK to continue with your session and access your resources using the Proxy server.
