Configuring Internet Explorer 5.x on Macintosh OS 9 (Classic)

 

Internet Explorer 5.x - cable modem/dls
(for security reasons, the user is encouraged to use Safari or Firefox instead of this browser, which is no longer supported by Microsoft, before use with broadband)


1.From the menu bar select Edit, then go to Preferences.





2.In the Internet Explorer Preferences window, open the Network settings and then select Proxies. The proxy configuration window will appear on the right.




3. Select the checkbox to use the web proxy server, then enter the
following information when the Web Proxy Settings dialog box appears:
Address:
proxy.msu.edu
Port:
8080
Method: Normal
User Name: Your MSUNetID

(It is recommended that you leave the User Name blank and enter your ID when you are
prompted after you reload your browser window)
Password: Your MSUnet password

(It is recommended that you leave the Password blank and enter your Password when you are
prompted after you reload your browser window)
Do not select "Use proxy server for local servers" and click OK again to close the Settings window.




4. The proxy settings are now in place. Click OK to close all of the dialog box windows and then click on Refresh to reload your browser window and activate the UserID and Password login window. Enter your MSUNet ID and your MSUNet Password to login.
