Dial-up Connections platformicons

Configuring for dial-up connections using Internet Explorer
The information on this page pertains to dial-up connections with Internet Explorer 5 and 6.
Please return to the standard proxy page for all other configurations. The examples below use screen images
of Internet Explorer 6 under Windows XP. The differences between Explorer 5 and 6 are descriptive and highlighted in the instructions.



1. From the menu bar select Tools, then go to Internet Options



2. Select the "Connections" tab and click on the current Dial-up Connection in the
Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings window.
(Note: Internet Explorer 5-5.5 only identifies this window as Dial-Up Settings)
Then click on the Settings button. You will not have to make any other changes to the other options in this window.




3. In the Dial-up Connection Settings Select the checkbox to use a proxy server,
    then enter the Enter the following settings: Address: proxy.msu.edu Port: 8080.
    Select "Bypass proxy server for local addresses". You do not have to
    use the Advanced tab unless you are directed to make specific
    exclusions to the proxy server settings. Your user name and password should already
    be listed under the Dial-up settings , so no further changes will be needed on this page.




4. After completing this information, the next time you connect to any location in your browser, you should
    receive the prompt to enter your user name and password.
