"The State Data Center/Business and Industry Data Center Program is a cooperative initiative between the U.S. Bureau of the Census and each of the nation's 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands. It was established in 1978 by the Bureau to improve access to and expand the use of Census Bureau statistical resources and related products by researchers, government planning and decision makers, the business sector, and the general public. Awareness and use of public data and information is enhanced with training and technical assistance delivered through a network of state agencies, universities, libraries, regional and local governments, and other organizations throughout the nation." The MSU libraries are part of the affiliate network within Michigan.
