ANNUAL CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIP
Once again the Midwest Chapter of the Medical
Library Association will be offering two scholarships to the
annual meeting. A stipend of up to $300 will be available to
either a library school student or recent graduate to attend
the conference, "Bridging Traditions '99", in Grand Rapids,MI
from October 6-9, 1999 at the Amway Grand Hotel.
Selection Criteria
1. Applicants must be students
or recent graduates of ALA accredited Master's programs and
must be residents of or attending school in North Dakota, Minnesota,
Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, or Kentucky.
2. Applicants will be judged on
the basis of academic achievement, interest in health sciences
librarianship and potential success in the field.
Applicants forms will be accompanied
by a resume, academic transcripts, a letter of reference, and
a cover letter explaining why the applicant is interested in
health sciences librarianship, and what he or she expects to
gain from attending the Conference.

Midwest Chapter
reserves the right not to award the stipend if there are no
qualified applicants.
MHSLA SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY
The Michigan Health Sciences Libraries Association (MHSLA) is
accepting applications for scholarships to its annual conference.
This year's conference, "Bridging Traditions," is a joint conference
of MHSLA and the Midwest Chapter of the Medical Library Association,
and will be held in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 7 and 8.
The scholarship includes two days of conference registration (October
7 and 8), attendance to meetings, workshops, two nights lodging,
meals, and mileage. Scholarship recipients may enroll in continuing
education courses at their own expense.
Selection Criteria:
Three scholarships will be awarded: one to a current
MHSLA member who has not previously attended an annual conference,
and one from each of the graduate library schools in Michigan.
Preference will be given to students concentrating in health sciences
librarianship. Scholarship awardees are expected to write a brief
summary of their conference experience for the MHSLA newsletter,
and assist at the registration/hospitality desk. To apply, submit
your name, permanent address and telephone number, e-mail address,
and affiliation.
Deadline for applications is July 16, 1999. One
name will be drawn at random from each category (MHSLA member
who hasn't attended before, WSU, U-M) on July 22. Awardees will
be notified promptly.
