is the creation of David Brower, arguably the world's most well-known
environmentalist. Still vitally active in his 80's, Mr. Brower is the former
head of the Sierra Club and founder of Friends of the Earth before launching
this institute. This web site has over 380 searchable pages including copies of
their award winning "Earth Island Journal" printed entirely on
tree-free paper. Make sure you check this one out!!!
Earthwatch describes itself as a
non-profit sponsor of cultural and environmental research. Contains information
on 150 scientific field research expeditions ranging from preserving public art
in Venice to tracking Timber Wolves in Minnesota.

Loka Institute--The Loka Institute is a
non-profit research and advocacy organization concerned with the social,
political, and environmental repercussions of science and technology. Focuses

Michigan Environmental Council The
major environmental coalition in the state.
National Council for Science and the Environment
It includes a prototype National Library for the Environment that includes
Congressional Research Service reports, previously available only to members of
Congress. There is also information about the effort to have a National
Institute for the Environment and a real National Library for the Environment.
The Natural Resources Defense Council
describes itself as "dedicated to protecting the world's natural resources
and ensuring a safe and healthy environment for all." The site offers
articles and resources about the government's management of public lands as
well as the NRDC's views on what should be done.
The Nature Conservancy Group that purchases and
preserves tracts of land for future generations.
OneWorld Online describes itself as
"a worldwide conversation on sustainable human development." Contains
an unsorted collection of environmental information accessible through its

Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility
- Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) is a non-profit
national organization that formed a couple of years ago to help employees of
local, state or federal government agencies speak up about abuses or neglect of
the environmental laws within their agencies, while not exposing themselves to
the risk of losing their jobs. Their presence is long overdue in Michigan, and
fortunately it appears that at the initiative of state employees a chapter is
forming here.

Union of Concerned Scientists The Union of
Concerned Scientists brings sound science to society's decisions about global
security and the global environment. We work to promote ideas and solutions on
