Policy and Procedure Statement 2.4.2

Labeling

November 1996

The Cataloging Department's Database Management Team is responsible for the labeling of all Library materials.

Initial Labeling

All newly cataloged titles are labeled according to procedural rules for individual collection areas. These rules vary for each area and are too numerous to be enumerated. Any questions about these rules are to be referred to the Cataloging Department's Database Management Team.

Software packages, cd-roms, and microformat materials are labeled according to the needs of the individual collection area and to suit the special needs of the format of the material.

Pam binds and "Flex-M' binds from the Library's Bindery Preparation Unit are also labeled by the Database Management Team.

Re-labeling

Materials are re-labeled because of defective labels, missing labels, or reclassification.

Individual pieces or small quantities of pieces that require re-labeling may be brought to Database Management. Large quantities of materials are considered to be projects and Database Management should be consulted about fitting the project into their regular workload.
