Blanket/Approval Plans
January 1996
Blanket/approval
plans are one means by which the library acquires current materials.
The library has
blanket/approval plans for all publications issued by certain presses and
organizations or in certain countries subject to a profile of criteria created
by Library selectors. The following categories of materials are generally
excluded from each profile: reprints, juveniles, books previously published
abroad, textbooks below the level of university study, syllabi, and
instructional material. In addition to these exclusions, the blanket/approval
plans for certain other countries provide only for materials in certain
disciplines of the humanities and social sciences.
These
blanket/approval plan arrangements provide for one copy of each publication to
be automatically sent to the Libraries. Copies received on blanket/approval are
selected by the appropriate subject bibliographer. Order request cards must be
submitted for additional copies for any location.
Continuation orders
for specific titles (sets, services, serials) are standing orders rather than
blanket/approval plans.
