Africana Library - Function and Responsibilities
February 2001

The Africana Unit is located on the 2nd floor of the East Wing and includes both the Africana Reference collection and the offices of the Africana librarians and staff.

The non-circulating Africana Reference collection is in front of the elevators (or along the walls outside of E224) and is available for use whenever the East-Wing stacks are open.

The librarians in E224 and E223 are available for reference assistance by appointment, and they are also responsible for managing the African Studies collection.

This collection, of approximately 180,000 volumes about Africa, is included within the Main Library, with about 35% of the total being classified under "DT". There are also some uncataloged materials (newsletters, telephone books, college catalogs, pamphlets) stored outside the offices of the Africana librarians.
