Employment Policy - Affirmative Action

Michigan State University Libraries in recognition of its social concern, responsibility for personal development of individuals, concern for rights of individuals and its obligations to comply with applicable case law and relevant state, federal and local anti-discrimination statues, guidelines and executive orders, adopts the following programs and policies for affirmative action and equal opportunity as a positive and continuing program for all operations of the Libraries:

a.   The affirmative action program for equal opportunity shall apply equally to the entire Library system and to all personnel policies and procedures and to all persons without regard to race, color, religion, national origin or ancestry, sex, age, marital status, physical disability or sexual preference.

b.   This policy shall apply equally to all types of appointments recommended by the Director of Libraries whether full or part-time or whether students, clerical-technical, faculty, or other employment classification.

c.    This policy shall govern all Library practices and procedures, including but not necessarily limited to: recruitment, hiring, rate of pay or other compensations, upgrading, promotion, transfer, demotion, termination, lay-off, leave, training, and employee benefits of whatever nature.
