(1) 1997-1998 Godort of Michigan Fall Meeting Announced
The Government Documents Roundtable of Michigan will have its next meeting on December 5, 1997 in the internet lab training center at the Detroit Public Library. Ken Rogers, of STAT-USA, will be present to demonstrate STAT-USA. Ken Rogers' session will start at 10:00 a.m. in the lab.
The GODORT business meeting will start at 1:00 p.m.
There is no fee, but there will be a "kitty" for coffee and tea; lunch will be on your own--there are many nearby restaurants. Sign-in and coffee will start at 9:30 a.m., but if you arrive before 9:30, when the library opens, you must use the staff door on Putnam.
Registrations will be accepted by mail or by fax. We will not take registrations by telephone. We will fax you a registration form
if you call to request one.

(2) GODORT of Michigan Speakers Bureau Requests Volunteers
Documents Librarians who like to travel can help train reference librarians at non-depository libraries around the state. They can make use of tutorials by Marilyn Moody
http://ublib.buffalo.edu/libraries/units/sel/mkm/michigan/docs.html or by Sally Lawler
http://www.lib.wayne.edu/purdy/govtrain.html or use their own Web pages. The idea is to empower reference librarians, who may not have many documents in-house, with the strategy approach to finding government information on the Web.
One public library which subscribes to Red Tape saw the previous request for volunteers and requested training. Sally Lawler will be doing a two-hour presentation at the Bloomfield Township Public Library in February. Once we have other volunteers, Sally will announce this service through listserves and newsletters and coordinate speakers with libraries.
If you are interested in participating in the GODORT Speakers Bureau, please request a volunteer form from:
Sally H. Lawler, Coordinator, Research Support Center, Purdy/Kresge Library, Wayne State University, Phone: (313) 577-1603
E-Mail : Sally.Lawler@wayne.edu.
