Shawn Nicholson has put together a spring meeting for Godort of Michigan entitled: CGI, GIS, DOQ, and PDQ: An Acronymic Primer.
The aim of this program is simple: To remind us of the wonderfully rich resources available in maps, mapping agencies, and data tools. Please mark your calendars for May 6th and plan to attend.
The speakers:
Ms. Prange-Gregory will offer an overview of CGI, highlighting its services.
Ms. Weessies will speak to issues of organizing, running and servicing a map collection, print and digital.
Ms. York will demonstrate the data tool, PDQ.

Shawn Nicholson extends his thanks to all who volunteered to fill the various empty Godort of Michigan offices. He will be sending out a ballot soon which will be voted on at the Spring Meeting on May 6, 2004 at the Library of Michigan.

GODORT of Michigan is soliciting nominations for both the Jennie Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Jennie Award, named in honor of Jennie Cross, may be presented to a member of the Michigan documents community in recognition of current outstanding achievement or special service. Previous recipients include: Jennie Cross (1980), Paul Thurston (1983), Francis Buckley, Jr. (1985), Anne Diamond (1987), Barbara Hulyk (1990), Jon Harrison (1995), Ann Sanders (2003), and Paula Kaczmarek (2003).
A Lifetime Achievement Award may be presented to a past or present member of GODORT in recognition of an exemplary career in government documents service. Four people have received this award so far: Eleanor Boyles, Richard Hathaway, June Hawthorne, Anne Diamond, and Grace York.

Nominations must include or be followed by a written letter of support. This letter should include name, address of the nominee, present place of employment, description of achievements or special service by the nominee, and the nominating source.
GODORT of Michigan is soliciting nominations for the Paul W. Thurston Award. The Thurston plaque recognizes a contribution to the professional literature by a practicing documents or other librarian which improves access to government information at the international, Federal, state, or local level. Membership in GODORT of Michigan is not
required.
The contribution should have been published within the past three years. Electronic publication is acceptable. If unpublished, it should have been completed in the past three years.

The award is presented in the memory of Paul W. Thurston, who set exemplary professional standards during his career as a documents librarian. It is the hope of GODORT of Michigan that the award will encourage others in both new and ongoing contributions to the documents literature.

Interested in attending a conference related to government documents or information? Godort of Michigan may have an award of interest to you. The Eleanor Boyles Professional Development Award, named in honor of a former head of the Government Documents Library at Michigan State University, may be presented to a GODORT of Michigan member in support of professional development activities related to government documents librarianship.
According to the Godort of Michigan bylaws, up to two awards may be offered during any given GODORT of Michigan membership year. The maximum grant total can be no greater than $350, and no grant should exceed the cost of the event.
