Casey Martin Award

Casey Martin, a pro golfer who battles a rare circulatory condition, engaged the PGA in a landmark lawsuit for the right to use a motorized cart during tournaments. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in his favor in May 2001.
Nike created the Casey Martin Awards the same year to celebrate his passion and competitive spirit. We present the award annually to an individual who has excelled in athletic pursuits while overcoming significant physical, mental, societal or cultural challenges, and who proudly serves as an advocate for fellow athletes with disabilities.
Nike presents the award each fall at its world headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. It includes a silver medal inscribed, "In recognition of your courage to fight for what is right and fair, on and off the field," and a $25,000 grant to a nonprofit organization of the winner's choosing that supports the disabled community.

Offering 24 $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors as part of its scholar-athlete award program. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 grade point average, have won a varsity letter in the sport in which they are applying prior to their senior year and been involved in other activities, both school-sponsored and outside of school. Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship

The Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship awards one $5,000 and three $1,000 scholarships to skateboarders who are high school seniors with a GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. If you have access to the world wide web and are willing to fill in the online forms, this service promises a free customized list of financial aid sources. FastWeb is actually a searchable database of more than 400,000 private sector scholarships, fellowships, grants, and loans from more than 3,000 sources for all levels of higher education. First-time visitors have to register (first and last name and a user ID), then complete a profile, including background and fields of study. Registrants then receive a list of all currently relevant funding sources. The registration information is stored and can be used on subsequent visits. The entire sign-up process, and delivery of available funding sources, can be a bit tedious: about five to twenty minutes, depending on the connection speed. Approximately 500 new scholarships are added to the database daily, so registrants can stay current.
