Bubel / Aiken Foundation (Disabilities)

Clay Aiken's foundation for children with developmental disabilities announced a new partnership with Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. The new program will utilize Krispy Kreme fundraising programs across the United States to raise important funds for the Bubel/Aiken Foundation, which serves to bridge the gap that exists for young people with developmental disabilities. Priorities for funding include but are not limited to:

  • development of inclusion/integration curricula, primarily K-12
  • educational approaches that engage different learning styles
  • inclusion strategies for minority populations including those for whom English is a second language
  • service learning opportunities and program development, training, and implementation
  • job training
  • development, training, and implementation for recreational programs aimed at both paid staff and volunteers
  • recruitment of special education teachers
  • assistance to families through eligible programs
  • continuing education programs/symposia aimed at the development of best practices protocols and strategies
  • programs that create awareness, change attitudes and behaviors about the abilities of young people with special needs and foster full life experiences

    Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation (Disabilities)

    The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation provides Quality of Life Grants to organizations nationwide that help improve opportunities, access and day-to-day quality of life for individuals living with disabilities, primarily paralysis, and their families. Grants support nonprofit organizations that address the needs of persons living with spinal cord injuries, their families and caregivers in twelve categories: children, arts, sports and recreation, education, advocacy, accessibility, practical service, independent living, assistive technology, therapeutic riding, employment and counseling. The Program also offers health promotion awards to nonprofit organizations that address paralysis caused by spinal cord injuries and other injuries, diseases and birth defects, including stroke, spina bifida, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Nonprofit organizations throughout the United States, as well as internationally, are eligible to apply.

    Gill Foundation

    The central focus of the Gill Foundation's grantmaking activities is to provide support to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and HIV/AIDS organizations throughout the United States. Geographically, we focus our efforts in three areas: Colorado, the non-urban United States, and national organizations. In 1999, the Gill Foundation awarded over $4 million in grants to more than 350 organizations around the United States, including eighty-five programs in non-urban America.

    Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP)

    Hispanics in Philanthropy supports Latino community projects through the "Funders' Collaborative for Strong Latino Communities" program, which is a "regranting initiative that provides capacity-building grants to small-to-medium sized Latino nonprofits." Grants have been provided to more than 250 non-profits led by Latinos, including organizations in the upper midwest.

    The Michigan Women's Foundation (MWF) makes grants to nonprofit organizations in Michigan which address the needs of all women - regardless of race, ethnicity, economic status, age, disability, or sexual orientation. Women and girls face a number of economic disadvantages specifically because they are female. MWF seeks to support programs and projects that enable women and girls to participate fully in the economic life of their communities. Funding opportunities include : Social Impact Grants, Young Women for Change Grants, and Mini Grants.

    Providing financial awards is one of many ways that NCLR fulfills its mission of supporting Latino communities in the United States. The NCLR has competitive financial awards (sponsored by the Annie E. Casey and Ford Foundations) for outstanding affiliate programs. Five awards are given to affiliate programs that focus on strengthening the family, and another $25,000 is awarded to the "Affiliate of the Year." Information about each award is available here.

The Anna Maria Arias Memorial Business Fund provides financial awards (ranging from $1000 to $5,000) to outstanding Latina business owners throughout the United States.
