Michigan Rural Arts and Culture Grant Program

RACP Grants of $4000 - $7,000 are available to organizations in 39 Michigan Counties. Grants will support collaborative projects that utilize arts and cultural resources to impact economic development and strengthen rural communities. Applications are due May 1, 2006 for projects occurring October 1, 2006 - September 30, 2007.
8 workshops will be held from February 23 - March 7, 2006. Workshops focus on skills and resources that assist local organizations to connect with and meet community needs through cultural economic development and community building activities. Topics presented: community cultural assessment, tracking economic value, collaboration and partnerships, project and budget planning, grant writing, and grants and state arts/cultural organizational resources.

Rural Health Outreach Grant Program

The Office of Rural Health Policy's Outreach Grant Program is designed to encourage the development of new and innovative health care delivery systems in rural communities that lack essential health care services. The emphasis of this grant program is on service delivery through creative strategies requiring the grantee to form a network with at least two additional partners. Programs funded have varied greatly, and have brought care that would not otherwise have been available to at least 2 million rural citizens across the country. Through consortia of schools, churches, emergency medical service providers, local universities, private practitioners and the like, rural communities have managed to create hospice care, bring health check-ups to children and provide prenatal care to women in remote areas. To be eligible the grant recipient's Headquarters must be public or nonprofit private entity and be located in a designated rural county, or exclusively provide services to migrant and seasonal farmworkers in rural areas, or be a Native American Tribal or quasi-tribal entity. To get on the list to receive an application for the FY06 Rural Health Care Services Outreach Grant (or Outreach Grant) when it is available, please call 1-877-477-2123 and request to receive an application for HRSA 06-005. The application materials will be available in the middle of June 2005 and will be basically the same as the FY05 Guidance.

Rural Housing Preservation Grants Program (CFDA 10.433)

This program helps very low- and low-income rural residents individual homeowners, rental property owners (single/multi-unit) or by providing the consumer cooperative housing projects (co-ops) the necessary assistance to repair or rehabilitate their dwellings. These objectives will be accomplished through the establishment of repair/rehabilitation, projects run by eligible applicants. This program is intended to make use of and leverage any other available housing programs which provide resources to very low and low-income rural residents to bring their dwellings up to development standards. Community Programs, a division of the Rural Housing Service, is part of the United States Department of Agriculture's Rural Development mission area. Community Programs administers programs designed to develop essential community facilities for public use in rural areas. These facilities include schools, libraries, childcare, hospitals, medical clinics, assisted living facilities, fire and rescue stations, police stations, community centers, public buildings and transportation. Water and Environmental Programs (WEP) provides loans, grants and loan guarantees for drinking water, sanitary sewer, solid waste and storm drainage facilities in rural areas and cities and towns of 10,000 or less.
