Originally begun as "FRIS", the Fire Research Information Service, this resource center is a vast collection of information on nearly any fire research related subject that has been gathered from both BFRL staff members, as well as researchers, fire protection engineers, and scientists from around the world. Over the years, the information housed within RIS has expanded to include not only fire research information, but also building research related subjects as well.

This booklet presents the principles of an investigation at a fire and arson scene, so as to ensure that potential physical evidence is not tainted or destroyed or potential witnesses overlooked. These principles of fire-arson scene investigation were developed by the 31-member Technical Working Group on Fire/Arson Scene Investigation, a multidisciplinary group of content area experts from across the United States and Canada, from both urban and rural jurisdictions. All working group members are experienced in the investigation of fires, the analysis of evidence gathered, or the use in the criminal justice system of information produced by the investigation. It is the intention of this guide to acquaint a broad spectrum of public safety personnel with the fire investigation process, so they may understand their role in helping to identify, locate, and preserve evidence in its varied forms, to either assist a specialist investigator when one is needed or to document and collect evidence when no assistance is needed or available. In focusing on the documentation and collection of physical evidence at fire/arson scenes, the guide discusses the role of first responders, evaluation of the scene, documenting the scene, processing evidence at the scene, and completing the scene investigation. Appended documentation examples, 17 suggestions for additional reading, and lists of national resources, points of contact, and organizations.

Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program

Fire professionals use FIREDOC to identify documents related to fire science, fire science engineering, building construction/materials, and modelling, most of which are produced by the Building and Fire Research Laboratory. This database is quite technically-oriented.

The National Interagency Fire Center was created to coordinate the preventive and proactive efforts of nine different government agencies on wildfire management. Their site contains information on current items of contemporary importance, such as the status of current wildland fires and reports on various fire accidents and incidences. The site is divided into a number of thematic areas including wildland fire prevention and education. The fire statistics area is quite helpful as it provides information on significant fires dating back to the early 19th century, and also provides detailed information on the wildland fire seasons from 1998 to 2002. The site is rounded out by a collection of Web links our useful wildland fire sites.
