There are several good books at the MSU Libraries covering
the topic of biological sciences careers. Click on the titles below to
see a short description of each book. Call numbers and locations at MSU

Online Resources
Several very good online resources are related to career
development or job search for scientists:
Science's Next
Wave
A career development online magazine for early-career scientists,
this site from AAAS and the journal Science discusses issues
related to all sorts of science careers: academic and industry,
research and non-research or "alternative" careers. From
the main page, you can get to pages specific for different countries
such as the U.S. From that page, look on the right for the Editor's
picks of links to try, such as the one for a new discussion forum.
There is a Careers
in Science Weblog as well. Community
Net lists online meeting places and listservs for different
early career researchers such as minority scientists, women scientists,
gay scientists, or postdocs: (PostDoc
Network ).
From the journal Nature, this site has articles related
to jobs in all areas of science. The life sciences channel is particular
relevant to biological careers. There are links to salary surveys
and regional reports as well as a searchable database of posted
jobs.
Career resources
page from the NIH
A page of links to information on how to write a grant proposal,
how to interview, career skills, postdoctoral associations, and other
biomedical career-related Web sites.
Career Network from
the Chronicle for Higher Education: Topical Index of Articles
The Chronicle for Higher Eduction
Career Network is useful for those looking for a job in any area
of academia, but many of the articles are directly relevant for academic
biomedical scientists. The topical
index of articles includes "Advice
for scientists", "Postdoctoral positions", "Academic
Culture", "Hiring Trends", and "Work and Family."
Adsumo
A life sciences careers website from BioMed Central and The
Scientist online magazine. It's services include job listings,
resume consultations and career coaching. There are also featured
articles for job seekers on such topics as job hunting, interviewing,
negotiating, and industry trends to help people at all levels of career
development.
Sciencejobs.com Bioscience
This site is operated by the publishers of Cell and New
Scientist and is a searchable database of available jobs as well
as a place to post job availability. Job listings from the back of
the print journal Cell are available here online as well.
FASEB Career Resources
An online classified and placement service for biomedical scientists
from the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.
