Extract of a Letter from Colonel Reed, Commander of the New Hampshire 2nd Regiment, to Charles Pettit, Pennsylvania Delegate to the Continental Congress, Dated White-Plains, October 14, 1776

"Every nerve should be strained to collect and forward provisions from Pennsylvania and New Jersey; for if we can keep the enemy at bay but a little time, they fight us under great disadvantage, or the season will drive them off. I hope our friends there will do what they can for us, while we are exposing our lives for them."
