When war broke out shortly after his graduation from Harvard, Trumbull marched to Boston with the 1st Regiment of Connecticut troops. He came to Washington's attention by drawing a plan of enemy works in front of the Revolutionary Army's position on Boston Neck and was shortly thereafter appointed his Aide-de-Camp. |
