Collection Summary:
The collection contains a wide selection of local and regional lesbian and gay support group newsletters, as well as flyers, announcements, and newspaper clippings dating from the 1980’s and 1990’s.
Historical Background:
The Lansing Association for Human Rights (LAHR), established in 1979, started the Greater Lansing Lesbian/Gay Hotline in 1981 as an information and crisis line serving central and lower Michigan. Its mission was to assist all members of the community, including heterosexuals, in answering questions they may have regarding sexual orientation and social and emotional support networks, health issues, political activism, family, etc. The hotline currently (2005) operates as the Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, and Transgender (LGBT) Hotline, under the auspices of LAHR.
