Little Cookbooks: The Alan and Shirley Brocker Sliker Culinary Collection

1892 Almanc and Key to Health [Burdocck Blood Bitters]

The black ink on beige stock cover shows a drawing of four young women in bonnets behind three "Bs" with key through them. On the back is a promo for Dr. Thomas' Eclectric Oil, claiming, "What it has done. What it will do." The promo is followed by list of maladies and how long it will take for the oil will cure them. On the inside front cover is listing of eclipses, seasons, chronological cycles, morning and evening stars, fixed and movable feasts for 1892. The inside back cover includes a table for foretelling the weather through the lunations of the moon, domestic postage and a caution against using blood bitters not under the Burdock Blood Bitters brand and asking for fraudulent copies to be brought to the attention of the company. Each section of the pamphlet describes an illness and how to cure it, along with testimonials and a calendar for the month. The sections include dyspepsia, constipation, if you are bilious, rheumatism, skin diseases, kidney complaint, headaches, female complaints, scrofula, malarial chills - fever and dropsy. The final pages are more general promos for Foster, Milburn & Co. products.
