Little Cookbooks: The Alan and Shirley Brocker Sliker Culinary Collection

From Tea To Cup With Coffee

The front page begins at the top with the title "From tree to cup with coffee." The "C" in the word coffee is an ornate "C" with a red background and white lettering. Below the title, there is a drawn color illustration of two crossed coffee tree branches full of coffee beans and flowers. To the right of the illustration, the phrase "The indispensable beverage of strong nations" is written. Below the illustration, the letters "NRA" are written in a fancy lettering followed by the publisher "National Coffee Roasters Association." The back page contains five numbered drawn color illustrations of leaf nat. size, flower nat. size, branch with flowers and unripe fruit full size, berry vert. section and cluster of ripe fruit. Below the illustrations, the number and name of the leaf or flower is listed. At the very bottom, the printer "American Lithographic Co. N.Y." is stated. The front end page starts off at the top with "Swaine, Earle & Co." Continuing down the page, the brand is listed along with four phrases: Gold Alligator, Golden Rod, Gold Beaver and Black Beaver. The following inside pages explain a detailed process of each main step for making coffee. The five important stages include growth, dying, roasting, grinding and brewing. On page ten, there is also a main topic of diet value. Throughout the inside pages, there are various drawn illustrations of the different steps during the process. The back end page is the same as the front end page except it states "The Boston and Silver Quarter Coffees" instead of the four other phrases.
