Ayer's American Almanac [1916]

This tan pamphlet has "Ayer's American Almanac 1916 - Sixty-Fourth Year Of Publication" in black above a large drawing of a lion's head. Below is "Ayer's Hair Vigor Does Not Color The Hair" in red above "Published by Dr. J. C. Ayer & Co., Practical and Analytical Chemists, Lowell, Mass., U.S.A." in black. There is a frame of a thin black line and a Victorian deco line. The back cover has a black frame with a drawing of a bottle of Ayer's Hair Vigor in front of a woman's head to the left of "Ayer's Hair Vigor Does not Color the Hair: Checks Falling Hair, Removes Dandruff, Promotes Growth, An Elegant Dressing." Below a thin black line is "This Almanac Is Presented By" above stamped "Van Sickle & Glaspie, 45 Clinton Ave, St. Johns, Mich." Below is a promo for Ayer's products and the company name and address. There is a red string through one hole punched in the upper left corner. The front end page has a double black frame with "Your Doctor, Show These Formulas To Him," instructing readers to ask their doctors about Ayer's products but to follow his decisions: "The doctor comes first of all." Below are formulas for Ayer's Cherry Pectoral, Ayer's Sarsaparilla, Ayer's Pills and Ayer's Malaria and Ague Remedy. The back end page has a double black frame with "We Are Here To Help You: Good Health? Keep it; Poor Health? Lose it" above tips for good health. The first page has "No Secrets To Hide" which encourages people to ask questions and research medications as Father would do before buying a horse or Mother would do before buying a dress. At the end of the page is "Before taking any medication Ask your doctor all about it." There are almanac pages for each month of 1916 with moon phases, times for sun rises, sun sets and moon sets, current events of the Nineteenth Century and several jokes at the bottom ("Mabel: Are they definitely engaged? Edith: I judge so. They both eat onions now whenever they feel like it."). Several pages promote Ayer's products and all the ailments they relieve and numerous cautions to consult a doctor first. There are no page numbers.
