Cooking For Health: How To Choose And Cook The Right Foods Plus A Magic Menu Maker
This pamphlet is divided into three "Books" with the brand Magic Chef promoted only in the third one. Book 1 is devoted to "Food Will Win This War, Too" and "How YOU Can Help," followed by recommendations for selecting and purchasing healthy foods. There is information on food sources, what various foods do for the body and individual vitamin benefits and sources. Book 2 tells how to cook foods to get the most nutritional value and has charts on how to save money on meat and suggested menus. Book 3 promotes the Magic Chef All-American Gas Range with descriptions of the cooking and safety features. This clever pamphlet is written in rhyme: "It's good to plan a proper diet -- But first of all you have to buy it" and "Lady, you oughter Use less water" and "So far as you are able, Have 'meat' upon the table." The cover of this pamphlet is red with a large cut-out black-and-white photograph of a smiling mother and father with a young daughter on her father's shoulders. All printing is in white with "Cooking For Health" at the top and the rest of the title below the photograph. In the lower right corner is "10¢" The back cover is white with a light red rectangle with "Magic Chef Gas Range" in black with a white circle with "C/P" (continuous pilot) in the middle. Below is a gray rectangle with "Saves Time, Saves Food, Saves Money, More Leisure, Better Cooking, Saves Fuel" in black print above the company logo in red. The front end page says, "Published in the Interests of Better Nutrition by American Stove Company, Makers of Magic Chef Gas Ranges, St. Louis, MO." with excerpts from speeches made at the National Nutrition Conference and from a letter from President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
