There are banners; one at the top with C.J. Van Houten & Zoon Inc. and one at the bottom with New York, N.Y., U.S.A.. The back cover is identical to the front cover. The front and back end pages have a portrait of Van Houten and some information about him below. The portrait is titled the inventor. The first page is a promo for Van Houten's Cocoa and page two discusses substitutions. The recipes all have a photograph with them. There is a recipe for hot cocoa and the remaining are for brownies, cookies, souffle, icing, cookies, and cake.
