In-Person D2L Training Opportunities

MSU faculty, staff, and graduate students with teaching assignments have the option to sign up for in-person D2L or Zoom/Mediaspace training through the Distance Learning Services Helpdesk. See details below for course offerings and registration or for setting up a consultation.

Walk-in Support

For Fall 2017, a Walk-In Support Session will take place Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 11:00am-1:00pm, in the Beaumont West Instruction Room in the Main Library (on the second floor of the west wing), and no registration is necessary. Interested parties may come and ask whatever questions they have at any time during the session, and D2L trainers will be on hand to assist.

D2L Introduction

This course will provide users with an overview of the key features and components of the Desire2Learn Learning Environment. Included will be instruction on activating courses, creating and managing modules and topics, as well as dropboxes, discussion forums, and quizzes/surveys, managing your classlist, and using widgets. The course will include time for questions and hands-on practice.

D2L Staff Introduction

This course will cover creating D2L communities, adding to and editing D2L classlists, and placing content within D2L, whether uploading external files or creating modules and files directly within the D2L system. Designed for those who do not need to use D2L in an official teaching capacity and covers material focusing more on the needs of support staff.

D2L Advanced Features

Learn about specific D2L course features that can be used to enhance the online course experience, including course customization, competencies and objectives, checklists, intelligent agents, and various reporting capabilities. Tips on making courses accessible are also included. This course is intended for D2L users who want to use additional system features beyond what is covered in the Introduction and other specialized classes.

D2L Assessments

This course will include quizzes, self-assessments, surveys, and dropboxes, and will cover how to create these items, access submission and statistical information for these items, and grade these items where applicable.

D2L Gradebook

This course will include how to use the gradebook setup wizard, how to manage grades and create new grade items, how to enter grades, and how to use grading schemes. It will also include information on grading rubrics and on evaluating user progress.

ZOOM/Mediaspace

In your office or on the go, you need access to spaces that will allow you to collaborate and share ideas. ZOOM! Cloud Video Conferencing gives you the ability to create easy to use high quality video meetings and webinars, communicate with partners using Cisco, Polycom and Lifesize video conferencing systems, and easily connect with those using tablets and mobile phones. During this course you will learn to create and manage your meeting spaces, quickly communicate with participants using ZOOM! messaging, and use screen sharing to maximize the interactivity of your sessions. We will also take a look at the tools available in ZOOM! Webinar.

During this course we will review the features that allow MediaSpace to meet the ever-changing technology and accessibility needs of the university. From storage, to playback, to captioning and secure video management solutions. MediaSpace is your one-stop shop for media production and delivery at MSU.

In-person Consultation

Individuals may schedule a 1 hour in-person consultation with a full-time staff member for personalized assistance. To do so, please provide the helpdesk with multiple days and times of availability and the topic(s) of interest. The Helpdesk will review the information given and contact each requester to schedule. Consultations take place at our office at the Main Library.
