This website is designed to assist MSU students, faculty and staff in identifying research materials located in the MSU Libraries and on the World Wide Web. It is not intended to be comprehensive, but rather a starting point for further research. The resources listed below are but a small sampling of materials available in the MSU Libraries and on the Internet. Always consult a Librarian if you have questions or need assistance.

The Library Catalog and Library of Congress Subject Headings

The Michigan State University Libraries Catalog is the main access tool for the Libraries. It contains bibliographic information on the majority of the Libraries' holdings.

The Library Catalog is available through MAGIC, the Michigan State University Libraries Online System.

MSU Libraries Catalog via WWW

MSU Libraries Online System (MAGIC) via telnet

Books and journals are assigned subject headings in the Library Catalog using a very specific vocabulary -- Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). Although there are a multitude of subject headings beginning with 'lesbian', 'gay', 'bisexual', there is no LC subject heading for 'transgender'. Rather, despite the impreciseness or inaccuracy of the terminology, relevant materials may be found under 'gender identity,' 'transexuals' and/or 'transvestites'. If you have difficulty finding materials, please consult a reference librarian.
