Educational Standards

Content Knowledge: A Compendium of Standards and Benchmarks for K-12 Education, is online in full text at MCREL (Mid-Continent Regional Education Laboratory) http://www.mcrel.org/standards-benchmarks/. The Standards and Benchmarks databases can be browsed and searched. The standards are connected to subject area internet resources. Also note the Standards Products section, many of the publications listed are also available online.

Developing Educational Standards
An annotated list of Internet sites with K-12 educational standards and curriculum frameworks documents. Developing Educational Standards has been on the Net since August 1995, first with the Putnam Valley School District and now the Wappingers Central School District - both in upstate New York. Includes links to standards sites by state or country, subject and sponsoring organization. Site indicates last update in early 2007.

National Center for History in the Schools
The Center provides the full-text of standards for U.S. history, world history, and K-4 history and lesson plans to help implement them.

National Council for the Social Studies
Provides access to the executive summary of NCSS's Expectations of Excellence: Curriculum Standards for Social Studies as well as information about their other standards and position statement documents.

NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) Principles and Standards for School Mathematics
Full access comes only with membership, but there is some trial access available to the full text of the NCTM guidelines.

National Educational Technology Standards. The National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) Project is an ongoing initiative of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). The primary goal of the ISTE NETS Project is to enable stakeholders in PreK-12 education to develop national standards for educational uses of technology that facilitate school improvement.

Project 2061 from American Association for the Advancement of Science. This site offers Benchmarks for Science Literacy and the companion Science for All Americans (SFAA). SFAA defines science literacy and lays out principles for effective learning and teaching. Benchmarks specifies how students should progress toward science literacy, recommending what they should know and be able to do by the time they reach certain grade levels.
